Trustmark is offering a new higher level of security for your Internet ACH submittals, ACH file uploads, Wire and external transfers.

Computer malicious software (Malware) and Internet fraud is increasing at a staggering rate.  At Trustmark we are committed to taking steps to mitigate these risks for you by developing new security practices to help protect your accounts.  To this end we are pleased to introduce a significant new security feature for our business and consumer Internet banking customers – TMKey® Security.

As a TrustTouchWeb or TrustNetWeb customer your accounts may have the ability to transfer funds, initiate wire transfers or create ACH external transfers.  TMKey® Security will greatly enhance the security of these accounts, as it adds an extra layer of authentication to transfers, ACH origination and wire transactions by using SMS/text messaging on your cell phone.

When TMKey Security is enabled for you or your company, you will be presented with an enrollment screen as you attempt to create a transfer, upload an ACH file or create a wire transfer.  The enrollment process is simple, and you will be asked to provide the following three items:

  • Your cell phone number - The device on which you want to receive messages when creating a transaction.
  • A new PIN ID - This is a security code created and known only by you to be used when creating a new transfer, ACH or wire transaction.
  • A new pass phrase - This can be the same as your current pass phrase used at log in, or you may choose a different phrase.  This phrase will be sent to your cell phone when a TMKey code is generated so you will know the message is from Trustmark and is not fraudulent.

After your enrollment is complete you will see additional requirements when creating these types of transactions, as outlined below:

  • You will create your external transfer, ACH or wire transaction as usual and click "Preview."
  • The new step is to click "Request a TMKey."
    • An SMS message will be sent to your registered cell phone within seconds.
  • As your TMKey code is being sent to your cell phone, you will be prompted to enter your PIN ID and your TMKey code.
    • The SMS message with your pass phrase and TMKey should arrive momentarily.
  • Enter your PIN ID and TMKey and click "Continue."
  • Once the TMKey is accepted, click "Submit" and your transaction(s) will be processed.

TMKey Security offers the most secure processing of your transactions available today.  Because we are send the TMKey to your registered cell phone only, you must have the phone in your immediate possession at the time of the transaction.  Additionally, the TMKey is available  for one-time-use only and has an expiration of only a few minutes.

Trustmark will begin offering TMKey Security in December 2009; customers will be notified through TrustTouchWeb, TrustNetWeb and by direct mail when TMKey® Security has been enabled for use on their accounts.

Requirements for use of TMKey® Security:

There are enrollment requirements and there are restrictions on use of the service as well:

  • Each consumer or business user must have a cell phone capable of receiving text messages. One SMS reply message is required upon enrollment.
  • A user may only register their cell phone number once in the TrustNetWeb and once in TrustTouchWeb.
  • The TMKey code, once sent via SMS, is only active for a few minutes and is only good for one transaction.  So have your cell phone ready and nearby when you are submitting your transactions.
  • During enrollment is the only time you will be able to enter your cellular number, after this point you will need to contact Trustmark Internet Banking Operations to make a change in that number for your user. Contact us Monday - Friday between 8:00 am and 5:00pm at 800-844-2000 ext 5278 for questions regarding TMKey® Security.

FAQs

  • What if I don't have a cellular phone?
    • Because Internet fraud is growing at increasing rate, we are recommending you obtain a cellular phone with SMS messaging capability to effect these secure transactions.
  • Which transactions will require TMKey Security?
    • Initially Trustmark will require wire transfers and ACH files uploaded by use of templates created in TrustNetWeb to have a TMKey and PIN ID.  Additionally we will require a TMKey and PIN ID to create a new user or modify a user in TrustNetWeb.  Within TrustTouchWeb, our consumer Internet banking service, we will be requiring TMKeys on external transfers in the near future.
  • I have a cellular phone, but the fees associated with SMS text messaging are high. Will Trustmark pay for this?
    • Trustmark will not pay for any additional fees billed by your cellular service.  We have put a substantial amount of investment in creating the secure environment.  We believe the cost of SMS messages to our customers is a very small price to pay for a much higher level of security.
  • Doesn't the bank cover my losses if my log in credentials are compromised?
    • No. Trustmark is very clear in the TrustTouchWeb and TrustNetWeb agreements, as you agreed to during enrollment, that it is your responsibility to keep your personal computer Login ID or UserID, and password confidential. Furthermore you have agreed to keep your antivirus software updated to prevent viruses, malware, keyloggers or trojans from infecting your PC and possibly compromising the security.
