Overview

The purpose of this job is to provide technical support for IBM z series mainframe, storage, and system software.  Encouraged to install, configure, and maintain IBM and/or third-party software and to coordinate and monitor these systems.  Able to work independently or as part of a team to support the efficient processing of the mainframe and system software.

 

 

Responsibilities:
  • Install, configure, test, implement and maintain z system software
  • Monitor and tune system and subsystem performance
  • Configure and support mainframe DASD, tape and other subsystems
  • Provide break-fix support using troubleshooting skills for on-call support
  • Analyze and provide solutions to issues
  • Facilitate usage of system software by Computer Operations, Application Support and others
  • Define and Allocate system resources
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or information technology preferred
  • 7+ years z series system programming experience
  • Excellent knowledge of z series mainframe operating system
  • Advanced knowledge of multiple mainframe systems such as on-line systems, database systems, security, change management, automation, and scheduling systems
  • Very strong technical skills
  • Ability to quickly become adept at new software and skills
  • Possess a strong sense of ownership to do everything necessary to achieving results
  • Self-motivated and willingness to embrace new technologies
  • Excellent Problem-solving skills
  • Advanced Oral and written communication skills
  • Team player who can mentor less experienced associates
  • Time Management skills with the ability to work on several projects concurrently
  • Ability to take the lead on projects
  • Demonstrate critical thinking skills with the ability to analyze information and make sound decisions in critical situations
  • General programming skills
  • Over 4 years of experience as primary support for z/OS, CICS, DB2 or other major z series system preferred
  • Programming experience: REXX, Assembly language, or COBOL preferred
