Proceeds for The Mill at Mississippi State University (MSU) project were used to renovate and expand the Cooley Building, construct a new Courtyard by Marriot Hotel, 800 surface and garage parking spaces, and two franchised restaurants. The property is located at the main entrance of MSU.
The Cooley Building, currently used by MSU, includes 22,000 square feet for a conference center and 49,000 square feet of office space. MSU has agreed to a long-term lease of 36,000 square feet of office space.
Created pedestrian linkages from the university to Starkville’s vibrant downtown and other Russell Street businesses and extensive student residences
Facilitated pedestrian and bicycle-friendly activities, eliminated barriers and formed connections to link the community with the university
Served as a catalyst for the area to utilize new urban design principles with shared parking, sidewalks, bike paths, trees, lighting, etc.
Preserved this historic 1902 building located in the Cotton Mill Historic District that is listed on the National Register of historic places
